  WT admitted "Jehovah" is not God's name...

  if i remember right(unlikely, lol) it was a one-page article about the tetragrammaton which concluded by saying that even though "jehovah" was 'probably' not an accurate pronunciation, it is a widely-recognized and accepted english transliteration of the divine name.

  i was thinking it was on the last page or maybe the back cover of a wt pub - maybe a watchtower.. can someone please direct me to the publication it was in?

  i read it when i was still 'in' and it made me stop and think about how much emphasis the wt puts on that name, all while knowing it's not the name.

  In the case of "Jehovah" though, it isn't a matter of it being the english version of the Hebrew YHWH, like JHVH, with the Y having a J sound or W having a V sound. It is a matter of it being completly the wrong word, even the number of sylables being in question. Because adonay and elohim were never intended to be an indication of the vowel point for YHWH. Those words were instead written under YHWH somtimes to remind the reader to substitute elohim or adonay not combine it with YHWH. Which would result in a made up word with no basis for being anything other than jibberish. Unless you believe that somehow by doing things compleatly wrong they got it right simply by random chance?

  "...Similarly, the New World Bible Translation Committee feels that it is reasonable to use the form “Jehovah,” even though that rendering is not exactly the way the divine name would have been pronounced in ancient Hebrew." ( JW.org New,New World Trans. Appendix )

  They absolutly know it is not correct but it is their Corp. brand name now and their not about to change it. As stated by others, the word "Jehovah" was first introduced in 1278 by a spanish monk, Raymundo Martini, wrote the latin work PUGIO FIDEI (Dagger of faith). In it he used the name of God, spelling it Yohoua. Later printings of this work, dated some centuries later, used the spelling JEHOVA. He arrived at thie pronunciation inccorectly by wrongly assuming that the letters for "adoni" (Lord) were the missing vowel points for YHWH. Virtualy all scholars know this is how "Jehovah" originated and that it was and is incorrect. Here is a link to a good vid on the "Name".   i worried most about losing my dear family, but i also had silly worries like, what would happen to my pets?

  say i didn't have a chance to let the cats out, they would starve inside my house.

  and what if people were so starving because of the big gt famine and stole my chickens!

  I can remember as a young child being terrified after hearing graphic details of persecution and being told; that's what we will soon face, any day now in the great tribulation. Things like; beheadings and rape and torture and cinder blocks being tied to your penis! All in graphic detail! As well as the horror show that was all of the armegedon talk and imagery in the books and towers. And then throw in the demon terrors from all the absurd stories that were told as absolute fact! I would be so filled with anxiety I couldn't even sleep at night. It really is child abuse and I'm so glad I havn't put that on my own kids! Even as an adult it still hits me, eventhough I know it's irrational, when certain triggers are tripped like certain new stories etc. I can still feel that horrible sinking, empty feeling in my stomach. So glad to be free!

  really the whole thing is ludicrious but it is hilarious and sad at the same time to see grown people arguing about weather there will be cars, planes, eat meat, what about fish, etc in a place as imaginary as oz, yet to them it is reality.. the teaching of a paradise earth was so illogical it really was the first thing that started me on the path to waking up.

  just the thought that someone could greet their beloved spouse who had died only to come to the realization that they could never be together again struck me as so cruel, i didnt want to live there even if it was all true.. i have heard jws say they think we might be able to fly, read minds since we will be able to use 100% and some seem to think life would be an endless vacation, with modern conveniences with no thought to all the processes and work that goes into something simple like a pencil.

  i love the article jwfacts has on the flaws of any theory or teaching of paradise earth.. what are some things you have heard discussed/argued in car groups, gatherings etc when you were in?.

  That story reminds me of what a friend of mine said. That the witnesses have "spiritual materialism" meaning is't all about what the're gonna get in the new system. Basically looting your dead fellow human being"s and neighbor's for: fine china, silver, cars, motor homes, houses and ESSPRESO MACHINES!!! WTF?
